The recovery of Toronto’s once-beautiful Don River watershed is in the caring hands of dedicated environmental stewards like James. A resident of Park Vista for more than 30 years, James is also a long-standing volunteer, and executive director, with the Friends of the Don East (FODE).
FODE spearheaded its first community tree-planting event in 2004 and, since then, has added more than 7,000 trees, shrubs and wildflowers to the greenbelt within one kilometre of Park Vista — and some 15,000 throughout the Don River Watershed.
While James’s tireless efforts have come to colourful life in the surrounding naturalized landscape of Park Vista, his environmental ethic and hands-on involvement with the Don Valley greenbelt path system have planted a seed of inspiration with the residents and staff of CAP REIT who are making their own home a greener place.
